Our Mission

Our mission as urban Anabaptists and metropolitan churches is to serve and impact our regional settings and places around the world with the great commission of Jesus Christ. We seek to create caring communities of dynamic Spirit-led worship, teaching, leadership development and evangelism with discipleship that is Cristo-Centric.

Koinonia Fellowship of Churches values and affirms each gift in the body of Christ. Koinonia Fellowship of Churches believes that the Holy Spirit uses all sanctified vessels including men, women and children as instruments of ministry for the building up of the kingdom of God.

About our ministry

The Koinona Fellowship of churches was founded in 2002 by Bishop Leon Schnupp. The vision was birthed out of the Lighthouse Community church in Upland PA, next door to the Chester community, a crime infested city with visual depression and plight. The calling and ministry was based on a need to see churches planted to deal with the plight seen in urban communities in many locations, including the Dominican Republic.

Lawrence F. and Nereida Chiles were asked by the Koinonia leadership to serve as Bishop in 2005. “By faith and I mean by faith we accepted the call, feeling in many ways like Abraham, not knowing where I was going or how I would get there. But by God's grace and leading we have seen a clear path to service as we put our trust in our heavenly Father”.

Currently there are 23 churches spread throughout Philadelphia, Chester, New Jersey, Reading, Harrisburg, Puerto Rico, Florida, and soon to be Panama city. Most of the churches are in poor communities, however, some are in flourishing upscale neighborhoods.

The ministry also includes a community center serving the community through a food outreach, a half-way house for those persons coming out of incarceration and other systems dealing with a variety of addictions in the Philadelphia area, and a vibrant prison ministry is also lead by Pastor Ron Muse who serves with Pastor Juan. Etc. These ministries are under the direction of Pastor Juan Marrero and his church leadership.
